Omicron in Gujarat, India detected third case of the new variant

India reported the third Omicron case on Saturday after two people were found infected with the new variant of coronavirus in Karnataka, government officials confirmed.

Omicron’s variant of the Coronavirus is marked as ” variant of concerns” by the World Health Organization (WHO), the third case of the Pandemic emerges when India reported 8,603 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’ total tally to 34.62 million.

Gujarat health commissioner Jai Prakash Shivhare confirmed that the man had been tested for a different Omicron of coronavirus. According to officials, regional authorities have already begun tracking his communications in terms of policies.

Officials in Gujarat said the patient, tested by Omicron, is a 72-year-old Indian man who lived in Zimbabwe for decades and arrived in India last month.

The health department said on Saturday that a 72-year-old man had been diagnosed with the Omicron virus in Jamnagar, Gujarat, days after arriving in the province from Zimbabwe, a high-risk country.

The Jamnagar native has lived in Zimbabwe for many years. He came to the province and met his cousin. After catching a cold, her doctor advised her to have an RT-PCR test. Authorities say the man arrived in Gujarat from Zimbabwe on November 28 and was diagnosed with coronavirus on December 2, after which a sample was sent to track the genome.

Jamnagar municipal commissioner Vijaykumar Kharadi said a sample of the man was sent to Ahmedabad for genetic testing to determine whether he had contracted a different Omicron.

European countries, including the UK, South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong and Israel have been designated “endangered” by the Institute.
