Deputy Director Yu Pei-chin of the National Palace Museum led a delegation to three prestigious arts centers, underscoring the museum’s commitment to deepening international collaboration.
For its centennial in 2025, the NPM has plans for a series of grand exhibitions. Yu and her delegation visited Tokyo National Museum, Tokyo Fuji Art Museum, and Kyushu National Museum, also called the Kyuhaku, July 23-25 to discuss matters related to institutional cooperation that would enrich the NPM’s anniversary exhibits.
Yu spoke with TNM Executive Director Makoto Fujiwara about signing a cooperative agreement, and invited Fujiwara and Jun Tomita, Kyuhaku’s executive director, to attend the upcoming centennial. Yoshiro Shimizu of FAM received a similar invitation to the opening of one such exhibition centered around a loan from his institution.
According to the NPM, centennial celebrations at the NPM’s Southern Branch will include an exhibition of Edo-period ukiyo-e. Since the launch of the location in southern Taiwan’s Chiayi County in 2015, these “pictures of the floating world” have been an important part of the collection.
A few months later, the Taipei City-based NPM will feature Northern Song Dynasty paintings, some of which will be borrowed from TNM. Kyuhaku is also contributing two additional paintings to the centennial event series. (POC-E)
