President Lai Ching-te conveyed Nov. 6 his congratulations on behalf of the government and people of Taiwan to President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance of the U.S.
Lai also thanked the administration of current President Joe Biden for the support it has given Taiwan in recent years. Presidential Office spokesperson Karen Kuo said that based on shared values of democracy and freedom, Taiwan-U.S. relations will continue to deepen, and added that Taiwan cherishes this long-standing bond and looks forward to working with the new administration and Congress to further advance bilateral ties.
Kuo noted that Taiwan would also keep working to strengthen links with both the Democratic and Republican parties to ensure unanimous bipartisan support for the country.
In view of recent turbulent global conditions, Taiwan vows to keep collaborating with the U.S., a key actor in ensuring global peace, stability and prosperity as well as the continuous development of democracy, the Presidential Office concluded.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also congratulated Trump and Vance on their electoral victory and announced that a letter from Lai has been delivered to the president-elect, which carries a congratulatory message and expresses anticipation to work with the new government, the MOFA added. (POC-E)
