The outgoing US president is seeking to prolong the conflict with Russia beyond his term, Dan Kovalik told RT
US President Joe Biden wants to railroad President-elect Donald Trump into prolonging the Ukraine conflict in breach of his election promises, American political commentator Dan Kovalik has told RT.
Multiple news outlets reported on Sunday that the US leader had granted Kiev’s request for permission to conduct long-range strikes on Russian territory with Pentagon-supplied ATACMS ballistic missiles. Moscow has previously warned that any such attack would constitute a direct war between NATO and Russia.
”[The Biden administration] wants to back Trump into a corner. They know Trump at least promised to end the war in Ukraine, and they want to make it difficult for him to do that,” said Kovalik, who is a human and labor rights lawyer, as well as an author.
”The American people want this over, and in the waning days of this presidency, they will do everything they can to keep this war going,” he added.
The decision may have nothing to do with Trump personally and is intended to secure what Biden perceives as his political legacy, Kovalik suggested. In effect, the outgoing president wants to ensure that he will be remembered as a warmonger “to the bitter end,” he stated.

The interview was given shortly after it was reported that France and the UK had granted similar permissions regarding Scalp/Storm Shadow missiles. French newspaper Le Figaro later withdrew the claim, while Paris denied any policy change. The US and Ukraine have not officially confirmed the reports.
