MOL releases 2024 labor satisfaction survey

The Ministry of Labor released the results of a survey on employment and working environment satisfaction levels Jan. 22, highlighting the government’s commitment to advancing workers’ rights.
 
According to the survey, 74.6 percent of workers were satisfied with their jobs last year, on par with 2023 levels. Among them, 97.5 percent were content with gender equality, 94.5 percent with supervisors’ care for employees and 94.4 percent with workplace friendship.
 
The survey further noted that 85.3 percent of respondents always received overtime pay or compensatory leave for working extended hours, which is an increase of 0.7 percentage points from 2023.
 
As for work-life balance measures, 67.9 percent of workers most want companies to provide benefit packages including tuition subsidies and group insurance, followed by flexible work arrangements at 48.2 percent and more generous annual leave than required by law at 45.4 percent.
 
Keeping the number of work hours per week constant, 46.5 percent of employees prefer to work five days a week with flexible start and end times, while 41.8 percent would rather work five days a week on a set schedule.
 
The survey further showed that 72 percent of respondents already have plans in place to cover living costs in retirement, with 44 percent planning to rely on labor insurance and pensions, 23 percent on savings and 21 percent on investment earnings.
 
The statistics reveal that 36.6 percent of employees worked overtime last year, a drop of 4.6 percentage points from 2023. However, only 4.4 percent were allowed to work from home, and 10.5 percent were required to work at night.
 
The survey targets domestic employees covered by employment, labor and occupational accident insurance. The 2024 edition had a total of 4,085 valid samples. (YCH-E)
