Japan’s former prime minister Shinzo Abe is dead after he was shot while giving a campaign speech in western Japan at about 11.30 am on Friday. He was shot in the chest and neck. A male suspect was arrested at the scene.

Shinzo Abe was in grave condition on Friday after being shot while campaigning for a parliamentary election.
Japan’s longest-serving prime minister was shot in the chest while he was making a stump speech on a street in the city of Nara. He is reportedly in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest.
Immediately after the attack, Shinzo Abe was rushed to a hospital and was bleeding from the chest. The police have arrested the man suspected of attacking Abe. Police identified the suspected shooter as Tetsuya Yamagami, a resident of Nara.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep distress at the attack on former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe.
