Congress appointed Manoj Yadav as the Joint Secretary of the AICC

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday appointed Manoj Yadav as the joint secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

Along with this, he was in charge of the Congress in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.

The official Twitter handle of INC Sandesh, (the official notification Twitter handle of the Indian National Congress) tweeted a photograph of a press release generated by the party today stating that the Congress President has appointed Manoj Yadav as Joint Secretary, AICC, attached to AICC in charge of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh.

Earlier in the day, the nomination process for the Congress president election began today and will continue till September 30, with several party veterans expected to contest the post.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Thiruvanantha MP Shashi Tharoor are widely expected to contest the post.

The two senior leaders met interim party president Sonia Gandhi after which Tharoor is said to have expressed his desire to contest for the post.

Gehlot also met Gandhi and said that he would try to convince Rahul to take over as the party chief and that it was time for him to lead the Congress as it was already fighting the Modi government.

However, the Rajasthan CM added that he might get into the fray if Rahul Gandhi does not agree to take over the reins of the party.

During the meetings, Sonia Gandhi declared that she would remain neutral in the party elections. Apart from Tharoor and Gehlot, third-party leader Digvijay Singh is considered a likely contender for the post, according to ANI citing sources.
