The Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra on Sunday saw the presence of former Chief of Army Staff General Deepak Kapoor and other veterans as it passed through Haryana.
Rahul Gandhi was seen greeting ex-army officers as he continued to lead a march for the grand old party’s mass outreach program that ends later this month in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar.
“Many senior army ex-officers including former Chief of Army Staff General Deepak Kapoor, Lt Gen RK Hood, Lt Gen VK Narula, AM PS Bhang, Maj Gen Satbir Singh Chaudhary, Maj Gen Dharmender Singh, Col Jitender Gill, Col Pushpender Singh, Lt Gen DDS Sandhu, Maj Gen Bishamber Dayal, and Col Rohit Chaudhry joined the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Haryana,” tweeted Congress MP Manickam Tagore along with pictures.
General Deepak Kapoor served as Chief of Army Staff on 30 September 2007 and as Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee on 31 August 2009.
He and other veterans joined the list of many dignitaries who marched with Rahul Gandhi during the foot march. , which started in September from Kanyakumari. Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, former RAW chief AS Dulat, actor and politician Kamal Haasan, and actors Pooja Bhatt and Swara Bhasker was marching alongside Congress leaders.
Boxer Vijender Singh – who hails from Haryana – also joined Gandhi in Karnal on Saturday. Along with them came Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s pet – Luna.
Meanwhile, Congress is holding a mass contact program to restore its connection with the masses after facing many electoral defeats in the last eight years or so.
