3 April: A bomb hidden in a gift box killed a famous Russian military blogger who supported the war in Ukraine, in a cafe in St Petersburg on Sunday.
The blast also injured 32 people, 10 of them seriously, according to Russia’s RIA news agency.
The blogger, Vladlen Tatarsky, had more than half a million followers on Telegram, where he posted reports from the front line and praised President Vladimir Putin’s annexation of parts of Ukraine.
The motive and the perpetrator of the attack are still unknown, but some Russian officials blamed Ukraine, while a Ukrainian adviser said Russia was facing “domestic terrorism”.
The incident raised questions about the security situation in Putin’s home city and the risks faced by pro-Kremlin figures involved in the conflict in Ukraine.
