26 April: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered various social media platforms and websites to take down the leaked clips of Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film Jawan, which were circulating online without the permission of the makers.
The order was issued by Justice C Hari Shankar after Red Chillies Entertainment Private Limited, the production house of Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, filed a suit alleging copyright infringement and violation of intellectual property rights.
The suit claimed that two video clips and some images from the sets of Jawan were leaked on social media platforms like YouTube, Google, Twitter and Reddit. The clips showed Shah Rukh Khan in a fight scene and a dance sequence with Nayanthara, the leading lady of the film.
The suit said that the leaked content caused damage and loss to the film as it revealed the look of the actors and the music, which were supposed to be disclosed at strategic points in time as part of the carefully-curated marketing strategy of the film.
The court also directed the Internet service providers to block access to the websites that were displaying or allowing downloading of the copyrighted content of Jawan.
Jawan is one of the most awaited films of 2023, directed by Atlee. The film also stars Sanya Malhotra and Sunil Grover in pivotal roles. Reportedly, Deepika Padukone will also make a special appearance in the film. The film is slated to hit the theatres on June 2.
