Kim Jong-un aims to have ‘world’s strongest’ nuclear force

Kim Jong-un in a speech shared his aim to have ‘world’s strongest’ nuclear force in North Korea.

Kim Jong Un promoted the scientists and soldiers involved in the test launch of North Korea’s largest Hwasong-17 missile.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has stated that his ultimate goal is to possess the most powerful nuclear force in the world, according to state media.

Kim made the announcement on Saturday as he promoted dozens of military officers involved in the recent launch of North Korea’s largest ballistic missile, the Hwasong-17. The November 18 ICBM launch was condemned by members of the UN Security Council, who called it a “serious escalation” and a “clear threat to international peace and security”. The launch is part of North Korea’s ongoing blitzkrieg tests this year, which have included the launch of cruise missiles as well as dozens of short- and medium-range ballistic missiles.

Kim said on Saturday that North Korean scientists had also made “an amazing leap forward in the development of technology for mounting nuclear warheads on ballistic missiles.”

He did not elaborate further.

This capability is critical if North Korea is to achieve its goal of possessing a nuclear weapon that can hit its main enemy, the US.

Outside observers say that while North Korea has nuclear bombs and missiles that can fly as far as the U.S., it is unclear whether Pyongyang scientists can miniaturize nuclear weapons to fit into the cramped space in the nose of the missiles.

Kim told scientists, engineers, military officials and others involved in the Hwasong-17 test on Saturday that he expects them to continue to expand and strengthen the country’s nuclear deterrent at an extraordinarily rapid pace.

The North Korean leader and his daughter continued to pose for a series of pictures with these workers as well as the Hwasong-17.

In a separate report, KCNA also said North Korea’s powerful Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly awarded the Hwasong-17 missile the title of “Hero of the DPRK and the Gold Star and Order of the National Flag 1st Class.” DPRK refers to North Korea’s official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

KCNA said the missile “clearly demonstrated to the world that the DPRK is a full-fledged nuclear power capable of opposing the nuclear superiority of the US imperialists and has fully demonstrated its strength as the most powerful ICBM state.”

The test fire also showed that North Korea would respond equally to “an enemy nuke and a full-frontal confrontation,” he added.
