Imran Khan of Pakistan is expected to visit Moscow on February 23-24 as the most important summit between the Prime Minister of South Asia and Russian President Vladimir Putin to be held on February 24 at the Kremlin in Moscow.
Khan will be the third Prime Minister in Pakistan’s 74-year history to visit Russia on a two-state tour.
According to reports, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has confirmed that preparations for the Pakistani prime minister’s visit are underway.
Earlier, WION on February 6 had announced that Pak PM Imran Khan would be Pakistan’s first Prime Minister in 23 years to visit Russia this month.
The trip, which will be closely monitored by South Asia, is expected to strengthen bilateral relations, the Afghan state, and security cooperation.
The tour may focus on commitments to develop a North-South gas network that stretches more than 1,100 kilometers and aims to transfer imported gas from the port city of Karachi to the Punjab provincial loading station.
It is worth noting that the last Pakistani Prime Minister elected to visit Russia on a two-state visit was in March 1999 when former Prime Minister Nakaz Sharif visited the country.
Since then in 2003 the then dictator of Pakistan visited Russia and in 2011, then-President Asif Ali Zardari visited Russia.
