US denies involvement in Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina’s resignation

The United States has categorically denied any involvement in the recent unrest in Bangladesh or the calls for the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The denial comes after the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) accused the US of meddling in the country’s internal affairs.

The BNP had claimed that the US was backing the protests against Hasina’s government, which have been ongoing since the start of the year. The protests have been sparked by rising fuel prices, high inflation, and allegations of corruption.

However, the US Embassy in Dhaka has rejected these claims, stating that it is committed to a neutral and impartial stance on Bangladesh’s internal politics. The embassy said that it supports the democratic aspirations of the Bangladeshi people, but does not take sides or support any particular political party.

The US has also praised Hasina’s government for its economic progress and development achievements, but has expressed concerns about the need for free and fair elections, as well as the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Hasina has been in power since 2009 and has been facing growing opposition demands for her resignation. The BNP has accused her government of authoritarianism and suppressing dissent, while the government has accused the opposition of attempting to destabilize the country.

The US denial of involvement comes as the situation in Bangladesh remains tense, with ongoing protests and clashes between opposition supporters and security forces. The international community is watching the situation closely, with concerns about the potential for further instability in the region.

In a statement, the US Embassy said, “The United States supports the democratic aspirations of the Bangladeshi people and believes that any political transition should be peaceful, free, and fair. We do not support any particular political party or individual, and we reject any allegations of interference in Bangladesh’s internal affairs.”
