Less than two weeks after taking over Twitter, Elon Musk is on the way of transforming older working methods in twitter office and management. Musk on Thursday scrapped the old work-from-home policy of twitter citing imminent need of employees in the office.
The Tesla CEO went to the extent of his stern warning of dire and difficult days as the new chief in command of Twitter which values at over $38 million. Originally, the causal result of a global pandemic, most organizations went underground to revive their foundational structure with the ease of the pandemic.
Musk has made the notice to the employees over mail since the takeover and has shown much disapproval for the pandemic-induced work policy better known as ‘work-from-home’.
Some important Twitter leaders, including the former CEO Parag Agrawal, the CFO Ned Segal, and the policy director Vijaya Gadde, have already been fired by the new owner of the social media platform. According to Bloomberg, Musk also let go of vice president of global client solutions Jean-Philippe Maheu, chief customer officer Sarah Personette, and chief marketing officer Leslie Berland.
Early on Friday, it became apparent the extent of Elon Musk’s layoffs at Twitter: Approximately 3,700 jobs, or almost half of the workforce, had been cut, according to four people with knowledge of the situation.
The engineering and machine learning teams, the trust and safety teams that oversee content moderation, the sales and advertising departments, and many other departments were affected by the layoffs.
In an effort to promote a “24/7” work environment, Musk has also eliminated Twitter’s “Days of Rest,” which were monthly days off for employees to unwind and recharge. While his reason for pushing over with the office policy comes off as an unhealthy pull, it can be reflected in the fact Musk bought the company at even a higher price than it actually was before the transfer of ownership.
Elon Musk is known for his hard and long working hours and so does he implements in his companies, latest of which is twitter. Tesla and other companies owned by Elon were already working from the office and that too for longer hours.
