Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended his greetings to the people of Haryana as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept the elections to local bodies. He described the victory as an expression of the “unwavering faith of people” in the development work carried out by the Nayab Singh Saini government in the state.
“I am very grateful to my family members in Haryana for the historic victory of BJP in the Haryana civic elections,” PM Modi posted on X. He further assured the people that the Haryana government would leave “no stone unturned” in fulfilling their hopes and aspirations. He expressed gratitude to the BJP workers, acknowledging their hard work and dedication, which played a crucial role in securing the victory.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stated that the local body government, along with the triple-engine government at the state level, would play an essential role in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India). Speaking to reporters, he expressed gratitude to the people of Haryana and said that the results of the local body elections were a “stamp of approval” on the triple-engine government. He also thanked the Election Commission and officials for ensuring peaceful elections.
Haryana Minister Anil Vij announced that the BJP had secured victory in 25 out of 32 municipal seats and had won the mayoral post in Ambala and eight other places. He credited the people of Ambala Cantt for rewarding him for his development efforts in the region. Vij alleged that a conspiracy was hatched against him before the 2024 assembly elections but asserted that the people of his constituency set an example by electing him for the seventh time. He further stated that the BJP’s success in the municipal elections signaled the diminishing presence of opposition parties in Haryana, as people had rejected their negative politics.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed gratitude for the BJP’s massive victory in the Haryana local body elections. In a post on X, he asserted that the people of Haryana had faith only in Modi. He thanked Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini, State President Mohan Lal Badauli, and BJP workers for their efforts in securing the victory.
Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar extended his appreciation to the urban voters of Haryana for supporting BJP candidates and ensuring a historic win. He credited the people’s trust in Prime Minister Modi’s governance and the efficient administration of the Nayab Saini government for the party’s success.
Parveen Joshi, Mayor-elect from Faridabad, expressed gratitude to the people and assured them that their issues would be resolved. She acknowledged the difficulties faced by citizens, including problems related to drinking water, garbage disposal, and sewage. She mentioned that Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar had assured full support in implementing development schemes.
The BJP secured victories in nine mayoral seats, including Rohtak, Sonipat, Gurugram, Faridabad, Panipat, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Hisar, and Karnal. Voting took place on March 2. According to the Haryana Election Commission website, BJP leader Shelja Sandeep Sachdeva won the mayoral post in Ambala, defeating Congress’ Amisha Chawla by a margin of 20,487 votes. In Rohtak, BJP’s Ram Avtar defeated Congress’ Surajmal Kiloi by 45,198 votes.
From Sonipat, BJP’s Rajeev Jain emerged victorious against Congress’ Kamal Dewan with a margin of 34,749 votes. In Gurugram, BJP leader Tilak Raj defeated Congress’ Seema Pahuja by 1,79,485 votes. In Panipat, BJP’s Komal Saini secured victory over Congress’ Sanjay Kumar by 1,23,170 votes.
BJP leader Suman Bahmani won the mayoral post in Yamunanagar, defeating Congress’ Kirna Devi by 73,319 votes. In Karnal, BJP’s Renu Bala Gupta won against Congress’ Manoj Wadhwa. Parveen Joshi of the BJP secured the mayoral post in Faridabad, defeating Congress’ Lata Rani by 3,16,852 votes.
In Hisar, BJP’s Parveen Popli won the mayoral post by defeating Congress’ Krishna Titu Singla with a margin of 64,456 votes.
