Congress opposes release of ”Why I Killed Gandhi”

Mumbai: The Congress on Monday appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to stop the upcoming telecast of the film ‘Why I killed Gandhi’ on January 30, saying it’s going to make stronger racist dispositions.


NCP MP and actor Amol Kolhe is gambling the lead role of Mahatma’s murderer Nathuram Godse on this movie, to be launched on January 30, the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation.

In a letter to CM Thackeray, Maharashtra Congress leader Nana Patole stated that the film ‘Why I killed Gandhi’ may be launched in theatres and OTT structures on January 30, the loss of life anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, which is discovered as the National Unity Day, for (upholding) communal concord world over.

“On one hand, Gandhiji’s loss of life anniversary is discovered for non-violence and peace. On the alternative hand, ‘Why I killed Gandhi’ is being released. This will deliver power to racist tendencies.

“The Indian subculture has usually hostile inhuman acts. This is why this film ought to not be released in country theatres and OTT structures,” Mr. Patole said in his letter.

The Congress is one of the ingredients of the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government other than the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Recently, NCP MP and actor Amol Kolhe obtained flak for portraying Nathuram Godse in ‘Why I Killed Gandhi’.

However, NCP leader Sharad Pawar had supported Mr. Kolhe, saying the latter’s selection to behave in that movie has to be seen as an artist’s preference.

“If he played that function, it would not mean he subscribes to Godse’s ideology or perspectives,” Pawar had told newshounds on Friday.

Mr. Patole also hit out on the BJP-led Central authorities for losing Mahatma Gandhi’s preferred hymn “Abide With Me” from this 12 months’ Beating Retreat rite on January 29.
