Mumbai: A special court in Mumbai on Tuesday refused to release fired police officer Riyazuddin Kazi, who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his alleged role in the Antilia bomb threat and the Mansukh Hiran murder case.
Kazi’s bail bond was denied by Special Judge AT Wankhede.
The detailed order is not yet available. Kazi, who had worked closely with accused police officer Sachin Waze, was stationed with the Mumbai Criminal Division’s Criminal Intelligence Unit when the Scorpio car filled with jelly bars was found outside Antilia, the residence officer of industrialist Mukesh Ambani.
Kazi’s role came to light after Waze was arrested on March 13 last year. He is accused of destroying evidence related to the case.
Along with Kazi and Waze, other defendants in the case include former encounters specialist Pradeep Sharma and former police officers Vinayak Shinde and Sunil Mane.
An SUV loaded with explosives was found near Ambani’s home in south Mumbai on February 25 last year, and Hiran, who claimed possession of the SUV before it was stolen, was found dead in a creek in Thane was found dead days later on March 5.
