Defence ministry signs ₹13,500 crore deal with HAL for Su-30MKI aircraft

The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the procurement of 12 Su-30MKI fighter aircraft. The agreement, valued at approximately ₹13,500 crore inclusive of taxes and duties, was finalized on Thursday, as part of the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative to boost self-reliance in defense manufacturing.

The new Su-30MKIs will feature 62.6% indigenous content, a result of the indigenization of numerous components by the Indian defense industry. These aircraft are set to be manufactured at HAL’s Nasik division.

This procurement is expected to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Air Force (IAF) while strengthening India’s overall defense preparedness. By prioritizing indigenous production, the deal aligns with the government’s efforts to reduce dependence on imports and promote local defense industries.

The Su-30MKI, a frontline fighter in the IAF, is known for its versatility and advanced combat capabilities.
