Delhi CM Rekha Gupta meets PM Modi; Ministers inspect road repairs and infrastructure projects

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence on Saturday, while her Cabinet ministers conducted field inspections to assess the condition of city roads and review pending infrastructure projects.

Earlier in the day, Gupta addressed well-wishers from the balcony of her Shalimar Bagh residence. Using a public address system, she shared her plans for the meeting with PM Modi, stating that she would convey the gratitude of women and daughters of Delhi for the opportunity to lead the city.

“On my first day in office, we approved Prime Minister Modi’s Ayushman Bharat scheme during the first Cabinet meeting,” Gupta announced, promising to use every day in office to serve the people. “Our mission is to achieve Viksit Delhi, as envisioned by PM Modi. This journey requires the collective effort of every citizen,” she added.

Following her visit to the Prime Minister’s residence, CM Gupta chaired a meeting with officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) to discuss solutions for dug-up and damaged roads, as well as traffic congestion in the city. She directed the department to expedite improvements and ensure better road conditions.

Meanwhile, PWD Minister Parvesh Verma inspected the Barapullah Phase-3 project, where he assured that delayed payments and pending environmental clearances would be resolved swiftly to accelerate the project’s progress. Speaking to reporters near Sarai Kale Khan in South East Delhi, Verma stressed the need for long-lasting road infrastructure.

“We have instructed road contractors to guarantee a lifespan of at least 10 years for newly constructed roads to eliminate the need for frequent recarpeting,” Verma said, adding that measures are being taken to remove encroachments from city roads.

During another field visit at the Khajuri Khas crossing in North East Delhi, Law and Labour Minister Kapil Mishra criticized the previous government, blaming it for the poor condition of the city’s roads.

“Under Arvind Kejriwal’s government, Delhi’s roads became a network of potholes, dust, and waterlogging. Now, with the new work culture in place, all Cabinet ministers and officials will work round-the-clock to repair and restore the roads immediately,” Mishra said.
