The 59th All India Conference of Directors General and Inspectors General of Police began on Friday in Bhubaneswar, with discussions centered on critical national security issues, including counter-terrorism, left-wing extremism, coastal security, narcotics control, and the implications of new criminal laws.
The three-day event, spanning November 29 to December 1, brings together senior police officials, security administrators, and policymakers to address internal security challenges and devise strategies for crime control and law and order management across India. The conference also serves as a platform for sharing best practices and deliberating on operational, infrastructural, and welfare concerns faced by law enforcement agencies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the conference on November 30 and December 1, alongside Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The event will also see the presentation of the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service, a significant recognition for exemplary contributions to law enforcement.
The Prime Minister’s engagement with the conference has been a hallmark since 2014, emphasizing open and informal discussions to encourage the exchange of innovative ideas. This year’s conference includes unique additions such as yoga sessions, thematic dining discussions, and dedicated breakout sessions, ensuring the effective use of the delegates’ time.
Since 2014, the conference has been hosted in various locations across the country, including Guwahati, Rann of Kachchh, Hyderabad, Tekanpur, Kevadiya, Pune, Lucknow, New Delhi, and Jaipur. This year, Bhubaneswar continues the tradition of rotating venues to make the conference accessible to different regions.
The conference is being attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Principal Secretary to PM, National Security Adviser, Ministers of State (Home Affairs), DGP of states and Union Territories and chiefs of Central Police Organisations, among others.
