Hackathons solve big problems: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the transformative impact of technological solutions developed through the Smart India Hackathon while addressing participants of its 2024 edition via video conferencing on Wednesday. The event, a flagship initiative by the Ministry of Education, has become a hub for young innovators to tackle real-world challenges through creativity and collaboration.

In its 7th edition, the Smart India Hackathon has empowered students nationwide to devise innovative solutions, collaborating with government and industry stakeholders.

“Many of the solutions from the hackathons held in the last seven years are proving to be highly beneficial for the people of the country today,” PM Modi said.

During an hour-long interaction, PM Modi encouraged participants, calling them the next generation of problem-solvers. He emphasized the importance of nurturing a scientific mindset and fostering innovation across all sectors, urging youth to adopt out-of-the-box thinking as a regular practice.

The Prime Minister also referenced the recently approved One Nation One Subscription scheme, designed to make scholarly research articles and journals accessible across India. The scheme, with an allocation of ₹6,000 crore for 2025-2027, ensures that young innovators have access to critical information resources.

PM Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering youth through initiatives like the National Education Policy 2020, which aims to cultivate scientific temper and creativity from an early age.

“The world recognizes India’s strength lies in its youth and their innovative prowess,” he added, pledging to equip young minds with the necessary tools and resources to meet the country’s aspirations. “For every challenge, India demands innovative approaches, and this hackathon exemplifies how the process of innovation is as crucial as the product itself,” he added.
