Members of the right wing staged a protest near Qutub Minar in Delhi demanding that the centuries-old monument Qutub Minar should be renamed as Vishnu Stambh.
The riot near the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Mehrauli area of South Delhi has been identified as Mahakal Manav Sewa. Heavy police have been deployed in the area and protesters were taken into the custody.
On the other hand, Vishwa Hindu Parishad spokesperson also affirmed that earlier depictions attest that Qutub Minar was Vishnu Stambha. Qutub Minar was made after demolishing nearly 27 Hindu or Jain temples by Mamluk ruler Qutubudin Aibek.
According to some reports, some of the elements also sang Hanuman Chalisa on the grounds of the historic building.
Last month, a Delhi court ordered the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) not to remove two idols of Lord Ganesha from the Qutub Minar complex here until further notice.
