India Post Payments Bank brings digital banking to millions of devotees at Mahakumbh 2025

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), which caters to over 11 crore customers across rural and urban areas, has set up service counters, mobile banking units, and customer assistance kiosks at five key locations during the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj.

These facilities, designed to manage large crowds efficiently, provide essential financial services to attendees, according to a press release from the Ministry of Communications.

Launched on September 1, 2018, under the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, IPPB is fully owned by the Government of India. At Mahakumbh, the world’s largest spiritual gathering, IPPB is ensuring safe and convenient access to banking services for all pilgrims.

Reaffirming this commitment, R. Viswesvaran, MD & CEO of IPPB, said: “We are honoured to offer seamless banking services on the sacred grounds of Mahakumbh 2025. It brings immense joy to witness the integration of digital banking with one of the world’s largest spiritual gatherings.”

One of the key offerings is IPPB’s doorstep banking, provided by trusted Daak Sevaks, which enables devotees to access critical services like cash withdrawals from Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through IPPB’s Aadhaar-enabled Payment System (AePS). Additionally, the ‘Banking at Call’ service allows devotees to access services by simply dialing 7458025511.

Aligned with the Government of India’s Digital India vision, IPPB is also supporting local vendors and small businesses by enabling digital payments through DakPay QR Cards. This initiative encourages a cashless economy, improving transaction efficiency and reducing cash dependence.

To enhance awareness, IPPB has launched campaigns at Mahakumbh, educating pilgrims and vendors about its offerings. Trained professionals and Daak Sevaks are available to assist with account openings, transactions, and inquiries, while visual aids like hoardings and digital demonstrations help familiarize attendees with IPPB’s services.
