India sets ambitious targets, witnessing rapid progress: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asserted that India has evolved into a powerhouse driving global growth, setting high targets and delivering significant results. Speaking at the Republic Plenary Summit 2025, he highlighted the country’s rapid advancements in various sectors, particularly in solar energy.

PM Modi emphasized that the world now acknowledges this era as “India’s century,” attributing it to the nation’s remarkable achievements that have raised global aspirations and expectations. “India has now emerged as a driving force propelling global growth forward,” he said.

Discussing the government’s efforts to uplift the poor, PM Modi revealed that over the last decade, more than ₹42 lakh crore has been directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. “Every rupee sent from Delhi reaches the intended recipients without any intermediaries,” he added.

Reflecting on India’s economic transformation, the Prime Minister said that the country’s annual GDP in 2007 stood at ₹1 lakh crore, an amount that is now generated within a single quarter. He highlighted India’s remarkable rise from the 11th largest economy at the time of independence to the fifth-largest today, expressing confidence that the country will soon become the third-largest economy.

PM Modi also reiterated his commitment to bringing one lakh young individuals into politics. “Those who will vote in 2029 do not know the headlines before 2014. They are unaware of the ₹10-12 lakh crore scams that used to happen. When they vote, they will have nothing to compare,” he said.

The Prime Minister also lauded India’s growing space sector, which has been opened to young innovators. “When we made this decision, it didn’t get much attention. But today, there are over 250 space startups in the country, creating rockets and transforming the mapping sector,” he remarked.
