J-K: Relief for farmers in Udhampur as four-month dry spell ends with rains

Farmers in Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, have breathed a sigh of relief as rains finally ended a four-month-long dry spell that had left their crops withering and their fields parched.

The prolonged lack of rainfall had caused immense anxiety among farmers, who were unsure of their harvest’s fate. However, the recent showers have revived hopes of a better yield and brought much-needed respite.

Sanjeev Kumar, a farmer from Debrah village, shared his relief over the rains arriving just in time. “We were waiting for rainfall for the last four months. The vegetable crops I planted were drying up, and I was very worried. If it hadn’t rained, our crops would have been destroyed,” Kumar said. He added that the rainfall promises good profits, as it has significantly improved the prospects for his harvest.

The rainfall has not only rejuvenated crops in Udhampur but also brought cheer to farmers across the region, many of whom had been grappling with the harsh consequences of the dry spell.

Meanwhile, much of northwest India, including parts of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed dense fog on Thursday, adding to the seasonal chill. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, experienced snowfall as temperatures dipped further.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in a post on X, reported a widespread fog layer across several regions, including South Jammu, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Gujarat.
