Jammu and Kashmir on alert as Article 370 Abrogation Anniversary Nears, Yatra Suspended

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has put the region on high alert as the anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 approaches. The move comes amidst intelligence inputs suggesting potential terrorist attacks and violent protests.

As a precautionary measure, the Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended, and devotees have been asked to stay put at their current locations. The annual pilgrimage, which attracts thousands of devotees, has been a target for terrorists in the past.

Security forces have been deployed in strength across the region, particularly in sensitive areas like Srinagar, Pulwama, and Anantnag. The police and paramilitary forces are conducting extensive searches and frisking operations to ensure that no suspicious activity goes unnoticed.

The anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, is on August 5. The move by the central government in 2019 was met with widespread protests and violence in the region.

The administration has also issued an advisory asking people to remain indoors and avoid large gatherings.

Despite the security measures, there are concerns about potential violence and protests. The separatist groups and militant organizations have called for strikes and protests to mark the anniversary.

The situation remains tense, and the security forces are on high alert to ensure that the region remains peaceful.
