Labour Ministry signs MoU with Swiggy to boost employment in gig sector

In a significant move to strengthen employment linkages in the gig and logistics sector, the Ministry of Labour & Employment on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Swiggy, one of India’s leading online food delivery platforms through the National Career Service (NCS) portal.

The collaboration aims to bring greater visibility and accessibility to gig and platform-based job opportunities for youth across India in urban and semi-urban areas. The MoU was inked in the presence of Union Minister for Labour & Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, and Minister of State, Shobha Karandlaje.

In his address, Mandaviya said, “The National Career Service portal is a dynamic platform connecting job seekers and employers across India. With over 1.25 crore active job seekers and 40 lakh registered employers as of January 31, it is playing a crucial role in workforce mobilization. This partnership with Swiggy will further extend the portal’s reach into the fast-growing gig and platform economy, enabling access to flexible and location-based opportunities for millions of youth.”

Mandaviya lauded Swiggy’s commitment to mobilizing over 12 lakh job opportunities in the next 2–3 years through the NCS platform.

“This collaboration represents a win-win model, while Swiggy will gain access to a diverse, skilled, and job-ready talent pool, lakhs of job seekers across the country will benefit from enhanced visibility and access to employment opportunities,” he added.

Highlighting the platform’s accessibility and reach, the Union Minister reiterated the government’s vision of making NCS a one-stop solution for employment, skilling, and counselling, and at the same time capable of hyperlocal job matching and supporting both domestic and international placements.

Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje emphasized the government’s vision to make NCS, a one-step solution for employment, skilling, counselling, and hyperlocal job matching, including support for domestic and international placements.

Dinker Vashisht, Chief of Corporate Affairs at Swiggy, highlighted the potential of digital entrepreneurship to transform lives. “This MoU is a vital step in aligning public and private platforms to scale up employment. It reflects our commitment to inclusive growth and workforce empowerment.”

He noted that the partnership is mutually beneficial—while Swiggy gains access to a diverse and skilled talent pool, job seekers will benefit from structured, verified, and timely employment options.
