Mauritius PM, along with 200 dignitaries, welcomes PM Modi at airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mauritius to a grand and warm welcome at 6 a.m. (local time) on Tuesday. At this early hour, he was received by the top leadership of Mauritius, with Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam personally welcoming him with a garland.

Mauritius PM was accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister, Chief Justice of Mauritius, Speaker of the National Assembly, Leader of the Opposition, Foreign Minister, Cabinet Secretary, Chairperson of the Grand Port District Council, and several other dignitaries. A total of 200 prominent figures, including Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, diplomatic corps, and religious leaders, were present to greet the Indian Prime Minister upon his arrival.

PM Modi departed for Mauritius late Monday night for a two-day state visit, during which he will attend the country’s National Day celebrations as the Chief Guest on March 12.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emphasized the significance of this visit in strengthening the longstanding ties between India and Mauritius. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated in a post on X, “Strengthening India-Mauritius enduring ties! PM @narendramodi has embarked on a two-day State visit to Port Louis, Mauritius. He will participate as the Chief Guest at Mauritius’ National Day celebrations and also meet Mauritian leadership and dignitaries.”

Meanwhile, members of the Indian community gathered at the airport, eager to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister.

Sharad Barnwal, a member of the Indian diaspora, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “We are all very excited. We have been here since the morning. The friendship between India and Mauritius has always been strong, and after this visit, the relationship will grow even stronger.”

Kadambini Acharya, Director of the Cultural Centre at the High Commission of India in Mauritius, also shared her excitement. “We have been preparing to welcome PM Modi for the past month. It is a moment of great happiness for us to receive him,” she said.
