Around 30 Members of Parliament (MPs) from Bihar, including those from BJP, JD(U), and other parties of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament on Friday to express their appreciation for the provisions made for the state in the Union Budget 2025.
The MPs congratulated the Prime Minister for the significant announcements made in the Budget for Bihar, especially with the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for November. Bihar received considerable attention in the Budget, with several projects aimed at enhancing the state’s infrastructure and economic development.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted Bihar in her Budget speech, outlining a series of major initiatives aimed at boosting the state’s growth. Among the most notable announcements was the expansion of Patna Airport, alongside the establishment of four new greenfield airports and the construction of a brownfield airport at Bihta. Sitharaman emphasized that these measures would address the state’s growing aviation needs.
She said, “Greenfield airports will be facilitated in Bihar to meet the future needs of the state. These will be in addition to the expansion of the capacity of Patna airport and a brownfield airport in Bihta.”
Additionally, the Union Budget allocated financial support for the Western Kosi Canal ERM project in Bihar’s Mithilanchal region, which will benefit farmers cultivating over 50,000 hectares of land. Sitharaman emphasized that the initiative would greatly support agricultural development in the region.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also welcomed the Union Budget, calling it a “progressive and forward-thinking” financial plan designed to accelerate both national and state-level development. In a post on X, Kumar highlighted the initiatives specifically targeting Bihar.
“The Union Budget is positive and welcome. This budget of the Central Government is progressive and forward-looking. Through this budget, the Central Government has taken several steps to further increase the pace of development of the country. The announcements made for Bihar in the budget will further accelerate the development of Bihar,” Kumar wrote.
The Chief Minister particularly praised the creation of the Makhana Board, which aims to improve the production, processing, value addition, and marketing of Makhana, a crop widely grown in Bihar. Kumar noted that this initiative would significantly benefit Makhana farmers, boosting the state’s agricultural sector.
Additionally, he expressed his approval of the greenfield airport initiatives, stating that they would facilitate increased international flights, benefiting the people of Bihar and contributing to the state’s economic growth.
