Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday outlined 11 pledges aimed at shaping a bright future for India during a Lok Sabha discussion marking 75 years of the Constitution. He emphasized the importance of citizens and the government fulfilling their duties and called for a politics free from “parivarvad” (dynastic politics) and corruption.
In his speech, PM Modi highlighted inclusive development and zero tolerance for corruption as key pillars of progress. He expressed hope that the 75th year of the Constitution’s adoption would strengthen people’s commitment to their duties.
“For India’s future and inspired by the spirit of the Constitution, I present 11 pledges from the hallowed precincts of Parliament. Whether it is a citizen or the government, everyone should perform their duties. Every area and section of society should benefit from development, embodying the principle of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’,” he said.
The prime minister called for zero tolerance towards corruption, both in governance and society, urging citizens to take pride in following laws, rules, and traditions.
Outlining the fifth pledge, he underlined the need to shed the “mentality of slavery” and foster pride in India’s heritage. He also called for an end to dynastic politics and urged respect for the Constitution, cautioning against its misuse for political self-interest.
Reflecting his commitment to social justice, PM Modi said that reservation benefits must not be denied to those entitled to them and opposed any attempts to grant reservations based on religion.
He also pledged to make India a global example of women-led development and stressed the importance of states driving the nation’s development.
PM Modi underscored the vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India, Great India) as the guiding goal for the nation.
“The dream of building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) is the shared aspiration of all 140 crore citizens. Let us move forward with the spirit of ‘We, the people…’,the foundation of our Constitution. With determination, success is assured. I have immense faith in my fellow citizens, their capabilities, the youth, and the Nari Shakti (women power) of Bharat. Let us resolve that by 2047, when India celebrates 100 years of independence, she will stand proudly as a developed nation,” he said.
The two-day discussion in the Lok Sabha commenced on Friday.
