PM Modi receives Brazil’s highest civilian honour for boosting bilateral ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Tuesday conferred Brazil’s highest civilian honour, ‘The Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross’, by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasilia.

Expressing his gratitude, the Prime Minister thanked Lula, the Government, and the people of Brazil for the distinguished honour. Accepting the award, he said the recognition was a tribute to the 1.4 billion people of India and the enduring bonds of friendship between India and Brazil.

PM Modi noted that Lula was the architect of the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership, and said the award was equally a recognition of the Brazilian leader’s untiring efforts to elevate bilateral ties to new heights.

The Prime Minister added that the accolade would inspire the people of both nations to further deepen their warm and friendly relations.

The award is the 26th global honour for the PM and the third on his current five-nation tour, which commenced on July 2.
