Prime Minister Narendra Modi will present a ceremonial ‘Chadar’ to Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju and BJP Minority Morcha President Jamal Siddiqui on Thursday. The offering will be presented at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah to mark the 813th Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.
This will be the 11th consecutive year that the Prime Minister has sent a ‘Chadar’ to the shrine during the Urs. In the previous year, during the 812th Urs, the ceremonial offering was delivered by then Union Minister Smriti Irani and Jamal Siddiqui on Modi’s behalf, accompanied by a delegation representing the Muslim community.
The ‘Chadar’ symbolizes respect and is offered at the shrine of Khwaja Gharib Nawaz. In Sufi tradition, such offerings during the Urs are considered a form of worship and a way to seek blessings. The handover ceremony will take place at 6 PM, after which the arrangements for its presentation at the dargah will proceed.
The Ajmer Sharif Dargah is a prominent Sufi shrine in India. It hosts the annual Urs festival, commemorating the death anniversary of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. The 813th Urs, which began on December 28, 2024, continues to attract devotees from various parts of the country and abroad.
