Sikkim Hit by 4.5-Magnitude Earthquake

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 struck Sikkim on Thursday, causing tremors in the northeastern state. The earthquake occurred at 8:52 am, with its epicenter located at a depth of 10 km in the eastern part of Sikkim.

Although no casualties or damage to property have been reported so far, the quake was felt in various parts of the state, including the capital city Gangtok. The tremors were also felt in neighboring Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts of West Bengal.

Seismologists have confirmed that the earthquake was of moderate intensity and occurred due to tectonic plate movement. The region is prone to earthquakes due to its location in the Himalayan seismic zone.

The earthquake has raised concerns among residents, who have been advised to remain cautious and take necessary precautions. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond in case of any further tremors or damage.

The earthquake in Sikkim is a reminder of the region’s vulnerability to seismic activity, highlighting the need for preparedness and disaster management measures to mitigate the impact of such events.
