NEW DELHI: The Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU) has launched two new courses to provide medical students with specialized skills and improve their job prospects, the Delhi government said in a statement on Monday.
The new courses at the State College of Delhi B.Sc. Biomedical Sciences and B.Sc.Nursing offers third- and fourth-year super specialties in areas such as diagnosis, radiology techniques, etc.
“The demand for health workers, specialized patient support services, and management in post-Covid situations has increased.
These courses will provide medical students with specific skills and improve their job prospects. DPSRU will adapt these courses to current needs and the curriculum will be dynamic,” Deputy Prime Minister Manish Sisodia said.
He added that the Covid situation shows the true strengths and weaknesses of the healthcare industry in India.
One of the weaknesses is the lack of medical professionals who are good at helping doctors with certain medical technologies, he said.
“Courses like this will help students acquire comprehensive skills and respond to the needs of the industry,” he added.
DPSRU Vice Chancellor Ramesh K. Goyal said the university is signing a memorandum of understanding with Ambedkar Nagar Hospital, Dakshinpuri, and also other hospitals in Delhi to provide hands-on experience for students.
“The university will ensure that each student receives the necessary real-world experience while pursuing their major,” he said. Mr. Goyal also said it will be a choice-based credit system with provisions for multiple exits under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
