National Nutrition Week 2022: Importance, Theme, Date, Tips

Nutrition is the foundation of a healthy body. Therefore, we try to get as many nutrients as possible from our diet. National Nutrition Week is celebrated from September 1st to 7th each year.

It aims to promote the importance of a balanced diet rich in all the necessary nutrients our bodies need for their various functions and to maintain our overall health.

The week-long program is administered by the Food and Nutrition Board of India under the auspices of the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

What is the theme of World Food Week 2022:

National Food Week will focus on a specific theme each year and feature it at the launch of various programs. Last year’s theme was “Smart Feeding Right From Start” and this year’s theme is “Celebrate A World Of Flavors”.

India began celebrating its National Food Week in 1982. The Center plans a range of activities to spread awareness of the importance of nutrition and how it can improve overall health.

As we kick off National Nutrition Week, here are some expert nutrition tips to properly meet your body’s basic nutritional needs.

Expert nutrition tips for optimal nutrition: Protein-rich foods:

Clinical Nutritionist Dr. Ritika Sammadar shares, “One should get 10-35% of their daily calorie requirement from protein.

She also adds that “eggs, lean meats, beans, dairy products, nuts, seeds, and lentils should be eaten due to their high protein content.”

Seeds and cereals

Medical expert Mahesh Jayaraman suggests, “Fill your body with energy and essential vitamins and minerals by consuming grains like rice, corn, millet, sorghum, wheat and barley, starchy roots like potatoes and sweet potatoes, and starchy fruits at least once a day.

The water

Water not only quenches thirst but also supports most bodily functions. Drink at least 6-8 glasses of water each day along with other healthy beverages like coconut water, sodas, and fruit juices.

It’s also a good idea to add herbs and spices like cumin, coriander seeds, basil leaves, and mint leaves to your drinking water.

Fresh fruits and vegetables

In addition to
fiber, vitamins, and minerals, fruits and vegetables also provide immune-boosting properties through antioxidants and flavonoids that help keep us healthy. In this National Nutrition Week 2022, let’s commit to eating better and moving towards a healthier lifestyle.
