President Biden will soon be responsible for deciding whether to fulfill the Supreme Court pledge to Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., To confirm Clyburn’s approval during South Carolina’s 2020 primary.
After a stalemate in Iowa and New Hampshire, Biden needed to win South Carolina in February 2020 if he hoped to be replaced by the Democratic Alliance. Clyburn, the House’s chief whip and former chair of the Congress of the Black Black Caucus, has vowed to authorize a candidate but has reportedly demanded that he make a public oath to take a black woman to high court.
Rep. and House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C., watches as President Biden speaks after Clyburn announced his endorsement of Biden at the Technical Technical College on February 26, 2020, in North Charleston, South Carolina.
After talking to Biden about it last night, Clyburn was disappointed that Biden had neglected to make a pledge on the forum on February 25, 2020, according to reporters Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes in their book “Lucky.”
During a break in the conversation, Clyburn reportedly returned to remind Biden of what they had been discussing.

“So Clyburn is getting up from his seat in the auditorium in the audience, and he’s making an exit line,” Allen told the Yahoo News “Skullduggery” podcast last year.
“You say, ‘Look, I told you I wanted you to say you’re going to call a Black woman in the Supreme Court. You haven’t done it yet. You’ve got a lot of opportunities. Don’t. You can never leave this category without doing it.”
Later in the interview, Biden expressed his promise in response to his slogan and a major misconception about him.
“Everyone must be represented,” he said. “The truth is, what we should be doing – talking about the Supreme Court. I look forward to making sure there is a black woman in the Supreme Court to make sure we get all the representation. Not a joke.”
The next day, Clyburn endorsed Biden, who continued to win important provincial elections.
After becoming president, Biden appointed Clyburn’s daughter, Jennifer Clyburn Reed, as chairman of the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission (SCRC), a state commission aimed at eradicating poverty in Appalachia.
When news broke that Justice Stephen Breyer was about to retire on Wednesday, members of the ongoing “party” responded immediately by calling for a black woman to take her place.
