India said on Thursday it would not attend the opening or closing ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics after China fired a People’s Liberation Army commander, who was critically injured during the Galwan war, who was carrying a torch at the event.

A Foreign Ministry (MEA) spokesman said it was unfortunate that China had chosen to do politics at the Olympics, adding that the Indian delegation would not attend the opening or closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Prasar Bharati chief executive Shashi Shekhar Vempati said the Doordarhsan sports station would not broadcast live the opening and closing events of the Winter Olympics.
