A MECHANIC has revealed how to check the exact age of your tyres and when they need changing.
Craig, from Walsall Wood Tyre & Service in Walsall, West Midlands, uploaded a TikTok clip to explain that it’s simple to find out the date of manufacture.

The motors expert said: “We all check our tyre pressures. We all check our tyre treads. But how many of us check our tyre age?”
According to Craig, once a tyre gets to 10 years old the materials start to break down and should be replaced for safety reasons.
He continued: “There are loads of markings around the tyre. From the size, aspect ratio, rim size and even the construction.”
Craig then points to a four-digit DOT code in an oval on the sidewall which indicates the age of the tyre.
The first two figures represent the calendar week in which it was made (from 1 to 52) and the second two figures are the year of manufacture.
Social media commentators voiced their gratitude for the advice.
One wrote: “Great video. Just changed two on my wife’s car. Need some now on my caravan which have a lifetime of five years I believe.”
Another said: “Turns out my tyres are 14 years old. Probably time to replace them.”
Motorists can be hit with 12 points, a £2,500 fine per tyre and even a driving ban if their car isn’t roadworthy.
It comes after Craig gave viewers the truth about whether a car seat can cause you to fail an MOT.
Meanwhile, another mechanic revealed how you can make sure you’re not ripped off when buying a used car.
