AN orthodontist has shared the correct way to brush your teeth – and it turns out lots of people have been doing it wrong.
While many naturally reach for their toothbrush and toothpaste, the expert said to “maximise results” we should all be doing two very important things before you even think about putting the brush into your mouth.
Instead, Dr Sable explained that to look after our teeth, we should be flossing and using mouthwash first.
And it’s only that we can follow this up with toothpaste, before adding another important factor that many people forget.
The woman, who describes herself as “The NYC Orthodontist” continued: “Ok, first you want to floss or do your water flosser – that’s the first step.”
Once you feel you’ve done the job properly, it’s time to pick up your mouthwash and swirl it around.
She said: “Number two, you want to do your mouthwash at this point.”
And only when you’ve completed both of theseshould you add toothpaste to your toothbrush.
Dr Sable went on to say. “Number three, you’re going to brush your teeth.”
But she also had some tips on how to ensure you’re doing this right.
She added: “And that’s where you spit without rinsing with water – do not rinse with water.”
Many experts have weighed in on this in the past and shared how rinsing your mouth with water immediately after using your toothpaste is detrimental.
That’s because they say it can dilute or wash away the fluoride in your toothpaste – the thing that helps fight tooth decay.
In the video posted to her social media profile, Dr Sable then said there’s one last part to the method.
“And number four, you’re going to brush your tongue,” she concluded.
Once she shared the perfect routine, many took to the comment section to have their say.
One person wrote: “Thank you. I literally learned how to floss correctly on TikTo9k – now learning the order.” While a second added: “100%”
