As Karnataka gears up for the assembly elections on May 10, 2023, two of the most popular Kannada film stars, Sudeep (Kiccha Sudeep) and Darshan Tugudeepa, are expected to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday.
According to party sources, both actors will be welcomed into the BJP fold at a private hotel in Bengaluru at 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm respectively. They will be joined by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and other senior party leaders.
The BJP is hoping to boost its prospects in the southern state by roping in the two stars, who have a huge fan following among the masses.
The party is also facing a tough challenge from the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular), which have formed an alliance for the upcoming polls.
The votes for the 224-member Karnataka assembly will be counted on May 13, 2023. The term of the current assembly will end on May 24, 2023.
The BJP has been in power in Karnataka since July 2019, when it toppled the coalition government of Congress and JD (S) led by H.D. Kumaraswamy.
Basavaraj Bommai took over as the Chief Minister in July 2021, succeeding B.S. Yediyurappa, who resigned citing age and health reasons.
