LABOUR has had its coffers boosted by £6million from private donors.

Sir Keir Starmer’s party saw a record influx from April to June, with the bulk of it coming from just two individuals.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt promised on Sunday to "spend what it takes" to make classrooms safe, but Treasury sources later said there were no plans for additional funding. See PA story EDUCATION Schools. Long-standing donor Lord Sainsbury gave £3million.

Former Autoglass boss Gary Lubner donated £2.3million.

Unions — including GMB and Unison, whose strikes have hit the public sector — gave the party a total of £739,000.

Overall, Labour raised £7.5million in the three months.

This makes the period one of its best ever fundraising spells.

In the same time frame, the Tories raised £9.9million from donations — around half from health entrepreneur Frank Hester.

The party has raised £22million so far this year.

The Liberal Democrats secured £1.5 million in donations.

This includes £25,000 from ex-leader Sir Nick Clegg.

A Labour spokesperson said: “Our finances have gone from strength to strength this year.”
