PRINCE Harry was “devastated” when he had to remove the ‘ER’ symbol from his military uniform as he stood my his grandmother’s coffin, especially as William was still allowed to wear the insignia.
Following the death of the late Queen, the Duke held the vigil with his brother Prince William, alongside cousins Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips, as well as Prince Edward’s two children.
Harry was given permission by King Charles to wear the uniform having served in Afghanistan, but it had to be stripped of the deceased Monarch’s initials because he was no longer a working royal.
A friend of Harry’s told The Sunday Times at the time: “He is heartbroken. To remove his grandmother’s initials feels very intentional.”
As the nation prepares to mark the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing on Friday, Harry will be in the UK to attend the annual WellChild Awards, a charity of which he has been patron for 15 years, before jetting off to Germany and meeting the Duchess of Sussex for the Invictus Games.
