Aurangabad, Maharashtra:The US is aiming to offer more visa interview slots for Indian students who want to study in the US this summer, according to US Consul General in Mumbai Mike Hankey.

He said that the US consulates handled nearly 1.25 lakh visa applications from students in India.

Mr Hankey visited Aurangabad and met with members of industries. He also went to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University and talked with students.

He told ,“We sent more than 1.25 lakh Indian students to the US last year, breaking a new record for Indian students going to the US in a year and making India the top country of sending students. This year we are trying to raise that number (of students) further.”

He added, “Our goal is to increase the number of interview slots we provide for students by 30 per cent this summer. We hope to welcome more Indian students to the USA.”

The American envoy encouraged the students to visit websites and find a suitable curriculum for them during his interaction with them.

The US Consulate Mumbai tweeted that Mr Hankey met with conservationist and industrialist Mukund Bhogale to learn about the historical legacy of the Marathwada region, efforts towards the preservation of its heritage, and areas of cooperation with the city’s business community.

He also discussed with an industrial delegation over supplying aluminium to support the global aerospace and defence supply chain.
