Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s remarks comparing the Gandhi family with Lord Ram’s dynasty have drawn sharp criticism from Anurag Thakur, a Union Minister. He said that she was arrogant and disrespectful to Lord Ram and the Indian democracy.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had defended her family against the BJP’s charge of dynastic politics at a rally on Sunday. She had asked if Lord Ram and the Pandavas were also dynastic, as they had faced exile but still served their family and country.
Anurag Thakur said that it was unfortunate and shameful that she equated her family with Lord Ram, who is revered by millions of Indians. He said that her family thinks that they are above the country, the Parliament and the people. He said that she and her brother should stop being arrogant and stop insulting Lord Ram.
He also attacked Rahul Gandhi for his comments on Veer Savarkar, a freedom fighter and an ideologue of the BJP. He said that Rahul Gandhi can never match Savarkar’s courage, patriotism, sacrifice and dedication.
Anurag Thakur, said that Rahul Gandhi can never be Savarkar even in his dreams because the freedom fighter did not travel abroad for half of the year or seek foreign help against his country. He said that Savarkar went to Britain to start a movement to liberate Mother India from the British rule. He said that Rahul Gandhi should be exposed for his lies and nonsense against Veer Savarkar ji.
Thakur also shared on Twitter a letter written by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on Savarkar’s birth centenary. She had praised Savarkar’s courage and defiance against the British government and wished success to the celebrations of his birth anniversary.
Thakur said that Indira Gandhi’s government had made a documentary on Savarkar to honour his bravery, sacrifice and service to the nation. He also shared some excerpts from Bhagat Singh’s Jail Notebook where the revolutionary had taken notes from Savarkar’s books. He said that even the Congress had passed resolutions in support of Savarkar in 1923. He said that by insulting Savarkar, Rahul Gandhi was insulting his grandmother, Netaji Bose, Bhagat Singh and even Gandhiji.
