Election Commission of India affirms suspension of poll rallies till January 31st amid rising Covid19 cases.
Earlier, the Election Commission of India announced relaxation in curbs for political parties, which include:-
- Public meetings of political parties or candidates in the first phase of elections are open from January 28 onwards.
- Public meetings of political parties or candidates in the 2nd round of elections are allowed from February 1 onwards.
- In door-to-door campaigns, the maximum number of people increased from five to ten
- Video vans for streaming are allowed in selected open spaces, provided the Covid procedures are followed
Earlier, when the Electoral Commission extended a ban on meat rallies until January 22, it had allowed political parties to hold house meetings with as many as 300 people or 50 percent of the hall capacity.
In a difficult message, the Chief Electoral Officer, Sushil Chandra, said the voting party would take action against officials who failed to take action against the law. The Secretary-General or the Regional Magistrate will be responsible for ensuring that all Covid regulations are complied with, the CEC said.
