Nobel Prize in Medicine awarded to Svante Pääbo for his discoveries on human evolution

Swedish anthropologist Svante Pääbo will receive the Nobel Prize in Physiology in 2022 “for discoveries concerning the genomes of extinct hominins and human evolution.”

The award was unveiled by Thomas Perlmann, secretary of the Nobel Committee, on Monday at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Nobel Prize in Medicine was the first of the weekly prizes to be awarded. The physics prize ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, followed by the chemistry prize on Wednesday and the literature prize on Thursday.

On October 10, the Nobel Prize for Economics will be awarded, and on October 10, the Nobel Peace Prize for 2022 will be revealed.
