2025 Presidential Hackathon kicks off in Taipei

Updates2025 Presidential Hackathon kicks off in Taipei
Organizers of the 2025 Presidential Hackathon anticipate more than 200 proposals to accelerate digital and net-zero transitions to help achieve Taiwan’s climate goals by the Sept. 1 submission deadline.

During a news conference Aug. 1 in Taipei City, Environment Minister Peng Chi-ming praised the initiative as a key platform for showcasing Taiwan’s prowess in environmental governance and digital innovation, adding that it is also a response to the Executive Yuan’s efforts to enhance public servants’ artificial intelligence literacy.

By inspiring government agencies to adopt AI technologies to address environmental and sustainable development challenges, the project will also help bring Taiwan’s governance more in line with the public interest and global sustainable development trends, Peng added.

Digital Minister Huang Yen-nun said private sector vitality and ingenuity play a key role in driving innovation, adding that he expects rapidly developing AI technologies to help promote carbon emissions reduction not only within the public sector but throughout society.

This year’s event, organized by the Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Digital Affairs with support from the EY, focuses on the domains of digital empowerment, net-zero transition, an innovative economy and balanced development.

The organizers said five proposals will be selected as winners this year, along with an additional inaugural award on using AI applications to promote public service innovation. Each winning team will receive a cash prize of NT$200,000 (US$6,685) and be honored by the president at an award ceremony set for mid-December. (SFC-E)
