The 2026 Taipei International Book Exhibition concluded Feb. 8 after attracting 580,000 visitors, according to the Ministry of Culture.
The event’s six-day run featured 509 publishers from 29 countries and drew 1,467 domestic and international authors. A total of 1,301 readings and 1,853 copyright meetings were held during the exhibition.
Minister of Culture Li Yuan said Taiwan’s cultural sector is flourishing alongside its economy and technology. The country implements cultural diplomacy through events like the TIBE, he added, pledging to continue such interaction with other countries.
Pornphan Pirompanich, director of the Thai Trade Office, Taipei, praised the scale of this year’s event. Thailand is the guest of honor country this year, facilitating exchanges between artists, publishers and writers in the two nations, she said.
Speaking on behalf of the next year’s theme country the Czech Republic, David Steinke, head of the Czech Economic and Cultural Office Taipei, said he was impressed by the exhibition’s constantly growing scale and popularity. Taiwan and Czechia enjoy close ties and deep literary connections, he noted, adding that the 2027 edition will feature classics by authors including Milan Kundera, Franz Kafka and Bohumil Hrabal, as well as works by contemporary Czech writers.
At the closing ceremony, the MOC presented best booth design awards to a stall jointly organized by Indie Publishers Association of Taiwan, Taiwan Association for Independent Bookshop Culture and Taiwan LaborFront in the large-sized booth category, and National Taiwan University Press in the small- and medium-sized category, while Eslite Corp. received the green sustainability award.
