The fourth Taiwan-India Dialogue took place Oct. 30 in Mumbai, underscoring mutual commitment to strengthening the partnership, the Cabinet-level Ocean Affairs Council said.

Organized by Taipei-based Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation and New Delhi-headquartered Observer Research Foundation, the event was hosted by TAEF chair Hsin-huang Michael Hsiao and ORF Vice President Harsh V. Pant. OAC Deputy Minister Huang Hsiang-wen and Chang Chun-yu, head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in Mumbai, delivered speeches at the event, while academics and staff from TAEF, Taiwan Chamber of Commerce Mumbai and The Prospect Foundation took part in panel sessions.

According to the OAC, the dialogue focused on economic and technological cooperation, and security development. The event explored ways to strengthen economic security and democratic resilience in the face of authoritarian expansion; and how to safeguard regional peace and stability through strategic collaboration, the council said.

Huang noted that Taiwan and India enjoy close cooperation in culture, economy and technology. Marine economy is also a potential sector for collaboration, together with maritime security and marine conservation. Taiwan actively advances circular economy, marine resource and waste management, and pollution prevention. Huang added that their shared experience can build a more resilient and sustainable Indo-Pacific.

Launched in 2022, the Taiwan-India Dialogue plays a key role in exchanges between the two sides. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Taipei-based India Taipei Association and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, the OAC said, adding that this year’s dialogue was held during the Oct. 27-31 India Maritime Week, the biggest event of its kind in India.
