The 2026 Taiwan Gender Equality Week will be staged later this month in New York City to showcase the country’s gender equality achievements and demonstrate its robust institutional capabilities and deep cultural resilience.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, TGEW will be held on the sidelines of the 70th session of the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), which will take place March 9-19 in New York and focus on strengthening access to justice for all women and girls.
The MOFA said the main event of this year’s TGEW is the Taiwan Women’s Power and Cultural Night, set for March 13 at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office. The evening will include a jazz performance and an exhibition featuring orchids as the primary visual motif.
The event will also feature a star lineup of distinguished speakers to share the country’s judicial reforms, policies and institutional achievements under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women framework. The event will be livestreamed on the MOFA’s YouTube channel and Facebook page, the ministry said.
Equally important is the Taiwan Forum set for March 12 in NYC that will focus on the practical experience of women leaders in driving institutional innovation, strengthening governance resilience and advancing inclusive participation, the MOFA added.
The forum is organized by the ministry in collaboration with Taipei City-based Foundation for Women’s Rights Promotion and Development and the STUF United Fund, a nongovernmental organization based in New York that holds special consultative status with the U.N. Economic and Social Council.
The MOFA said more than 60 representatives from around 40 Taiwanese local governments and NGOs will hold 30-plus parallel events during the CSW to share Taiwan’s experience and achievements in implementing gender equality initiatives.
Beginning March 6, advertisements featuring the orchid motif and Taiwan imagery with the slogan “Her Rights, Our Pride” will appear on NYC taxis, bus stops and subway station billboards to raise awareness of Taiwan’s commitment to promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. (SFC-E)
